A few heart-whole, sincere, and energetic men and women can do more in a year than a mob in a century.

Attitude

Some key elements of the Ramakrishna Order's approach to and the methodology of relief are:

  1. Worship of God in humans as the guiding ideal.
  2. Strictly apolitical conduct of activities and avoidance of populist publicity.
  3. Financial accountability through detailed records of the sources and utilization of funds.
  4. Reaching out to the most needy through careful field surveys.
  5. No discrimination on religious, ethnic, sectional or other grounds.
  6. Involvement of local people in planning as well as implementation of specific programmes.
  7. Rapid and efficient provision of services and use of current technology wherever feasible.
  8. Time-bound programmes and avoidance of ‘indiscriminate charity' to prevent wastage of resources and dependence among beneficiaries.
  9. Participatory approach involving monks, volunteers and technical experts.
  10. Focus on development-socio-economic, environmental and cultural-empowerment, and preventive strategies in rehabilitation.
