In the present age, nothing is more beneficial and rewarding than the Japa Yajna. Sri Krishna in the Gita declares that He is Japa Yajna among all the Yajnas. Japa Yajna is most efficacious, only when it is done with utmost faith.
Sri Rukmini with faith and devotion placed a basil plant leaf chanting Sri Krishna's name and thereby won the Lord himself. Satyabhama could not win Him with all her gold.
A king once committed a sin inadvertently and wanted to be purified. He, therefore, went to a sadhu for a remedy. The sadhu asked his disciple to give the necessary remedial measures. The disciple said 'Sir recite the name of Rama thrice and you will be washed of your sins.' The master was angry with the disciple for suggesting Rama Nama thrice. It is enough if you say but once Rama Nama. All will be well. For the doubt, we entertain in the efficacy of the Japa Yajna we may have to be reborn once again for our salvation. We can have mukti or moksha or salvastion here and now itself if we chant the Nama (Name) of God even once with faith.
Holy Mother Sarada Devi is the very embodiment of Japa Yoga.
By reciting the name of God, which is like a chain pulling the log of wood, we, jivas or individuals can reach our destination. The connecting link between God and devotee is the namajapa, (repeated chanting of God's name).
"One attains God through japa. By repeating the name of God secretly and in solitude one receives divine grace. Then comes His vision. Suppose there is a big piece of timber lying under water and fastened to the land with a chain; by proceeding along the chain, link by link, you will at last touch the timber."--- Sri Ramakrishna
