Chapter -17   Slokas —15
Speech that causes no worry and is also truthful, agreeable and beneficial, as also the study of the Vedas, are said to be verbal austerity.

Communicative skill is an art. It is not enough if we speak truth. We must speak truth without wounding anybody. With love and endearment, if we are to express ourselves, it will be acceptable and pleasing. Our words must be sweet and noble, affectionate and truthful.

Hanuman in the Ramayana is considered to be the best communicator. At his very first appearance, he was able to win the love and admiration of Sri Rama. He was able to bring Sri Rama and Sugriva together. It was again because of his art of apt speech that he was able to stop Sita from committing suicide. To avoid all anxiety, he said to Sri Rama after his visit to Lanka 'Saw Sita'. His greatness lies in his endearing and apt speech.

Swami Vivekananda has felt in his heart the fullness of love for Americans. And so at the Parliament of Religions he addressed them as "Sisters and Brothers of America". His communicative art is born out of his love for humanity. So, it is like a shower of nectar from heavens above. The response too, therefore, was unprecedented. There is nothing that cannot be won by a loving word.

Holy mother Sarada Devi was on her way to Calcutta through the woods on foot. A group of robbers accosted her. And looking at them she said with the affection of a girl child "Amma, papa'. The cruel hearts were melted and they found in her their daughter.

Communication shines most when it is born of love and affection — the burnished gold of heart.

"Truth does not pay homage to any society, ancient or modern. Society has to pay homage to Truth or die. Societies should be moulded upon truth, and truth has not to adjust itself to society."--- Swami Vivekananada
