Life is a mixture of good and evil, ups and downs, success and failure. In short, it has many pairs of opposites. Ordinary people are elated and happy when things and happenings are favourable. They feel dejected and depressed when anything is unfavourable or unpleasant. But there are a few who maintain their equanimity amidst all. They remain undisturbed and keep their cool and poise always.
Sri Rama is offered the crown. It did not elate him. The very next day he was asked to go to the woods. It did not depress him. We may have profits and losses, appointments and disappointments, promotions and reversions. To succumb to them is foolish. Jumping in happiness and weeping in misery are unworthy of a wise person. Nor should we entertain envy or anger towards the person responsible for our fall or failure, sorrow or suffering.
Sri Rama accepted everything with equanimity. And he never entertained ill-will towards Kaikeyi who was responsible for his exile. He took leave of her with due respect.
It is in our interest that we keep our minds calm and tranquil. Let not our minds be tossed on the turbulent waves of this world made up of polarities.
Let our lives be a smooth journey in the ocean of Samsara.
"It is the level-headed man, the calm man, of good judgement and cool nerves, of great sympathy and love, who does good work and so does good to himself."--- Swami Vivekananada
