Consistency is an important trait in devotion. We should not forget God at anytime. Nor should we own the authorship of anything. Every action is performed by God. And we are but tools. Similarly every fruit is to be offered at the feet of God. All our actions and reactions are but providential. We have to place them all at the disposal of God. It is He who does all and we have to be aware of this truth always.
Sri Ramakrishna has beautifully explained it through a story. A few thieves with their booty came to the resting place of a merchant-devotee on the road side, in a solitary shade. They forced him to carry it. Later they left the stolen wealth near him and ran away to escape the chasing policeman. The poor merchant was therefore mistaken for a thief and arrested. He was produced before the judge in a court of law. The merchant said "By the will of Rama, I am a merchant. By the will of Rama, I was resting. By the will of Rama, I was disturbed by the thieves. By the will of Rama, I was forced to carry this bag. By the will of Rama, the policemen came. By the will of Rama, they caught me. By the will of Rama, I am brought here. By the will of Rama, I am telling you what is known to me". The judge was able to understand the purity, devotion and innocence of the merchant and the judge therefore pronounced "By the will of Rama, my dear man, you are released. By the will of Rama, you may go".
He who does and realises everything by the will of God, as the will of God, never comes to grief.
