Chapter -2   Slokas — 70
He attains peace into whom all sense-objects enter, even as rivers enter an ocean which is unaffected though being ever filled, and not one who is desirous of enjoyments.

Rivers have floods. Some of them are dry in summer. Almost all the rivers flow towards the ocean. When there are floods, more water will flow to the ocean and in summer, there will be less water going towards the ocean. But the ocean does not increase or decrease. It remains the same, unaffected by the flow of water from the rivers.

Mind too should be like that ocean unaffected by the thoughts of diverse types. It should be stable and serene, unaffected by the thoughts and emotions. To be so, is to be free from tension and anxiety, worry and agony. We can be peaceful and tranquil always, if we are able to remain calm, unaffected by the ebb and tide of times, fluctuations of fortune and vagaries of weather.

"All knowledge that the world has ever received comes from the mind; the infinite library of the universe is in your own mind. The external world is simply the suggestion, the occasion, which sets you to study your own mind, but the object of your study is always your own mind. The falling of an apple gave the suggestion to Newton, and he studied his own mind; he re-arranged all the previous links of thought in his mind and discovered a new link among them, which we call the law of gravitation. It was not in the apple nor in anything in the centre of the earth. There is no limit to the power of the human mind. The more concentrated it is, the more power is brought to bear on one point; that is the secret."--- Swami Vivekananda
