Sloka 10

Chapter -5   Slokas — 10
He who performs actions dedicating them to the Lord and giving
up attachment, is not touched by sin, as a lotus leaf by water.

The greatest all is the art of living in this world. It is after all in our hands to make or mar our lives. Life can be a sport. It can also be a battlefield. We can be peaceful or miserable depending upon our attitude towards life. If we have our faith fixed in God, if we are devoted to God, if we have our abode in God, our sojourn in the world will not affect our poise. We can then play the game of life peacefully, joyfully.

A lady servant in a rich man's house does all work with utmost sincerity. She looks after the rich man's child with all affection. But, at the same time, she is aware of the truth that the house and the child are not hers. She has her thoughts about her humble cottage and her dear child away from the rich bungalow.

A crocodile while going about in the waters has its mind fixed on its eggs and their safety. Similarly, while working in this world, let's keep our hearts at the feet of God. Let our deity be in our minds. And, then, the boats of our minds go peacefully in the waters of the world. If not, the waters enter the boat drowning it in them. Let not the world and its activities enter into our minds to worry them, cause them the tension and finally kill them by drowning them. Let us enjoy our journey in the world with our thoughts about our original abode and that is God.

Let us be like the lotus and the lotus leaf in the water, growing in the water, using the water, without being drenched by it and drowned in it. Let us be in the world. Let us not be of the world.

"Do all your duties, but keep your mind on God."--- Sri Ramakrishna
