Mind is a menace. It is also an ocean of peace. It can make a hell. It can also show us the heaven. It is tranquil and also turbulent. When it is calm it is transparent and peaceful. When it is turbulent, it is cyclonic and troublesome. We are blessed, if we are able to control our minds.
Like a lamp or flame in winds, minds are often disturbed by and tossed about in desires. The more the winds are regulated and reduced, the more the lamp of mind is bright and still. Anxiety and tension are because of the disturbed mind. By practice, we can to a great extent control the mind. We can make it calm and quiet, undisturbed and tranquil. And, then, it will be a mass of bright light keeping us in the brightness of quietness always. But that is not enough. We must, with the help of it, proceed to our destination and reach the chosen goal. For that, we have to develop detachment. Aeroplane cannot fly, if it does not detach itself and take off from the ground. If one is to cling to the parents, one cannot have higher education in distant universities. If one's boat is anchored, any amount of effort will be futile for movement towards the other shore.
By practice we can concentrate and by detachment we can proceed to the destination.Arise, Awake, and stop not till the goal is reached.
"Those who lead a householder's life should practise spiritual discipline; they should pray eagerly to God in solitude. God cannot be realized through scholarship. Who, indeed, can understand the things of the Spirit through reason? No, all should strive for devotion to the Lotus Feet of God."-- - Sri Ramakrishna
