Mind is a nuisance if not silenced. It goads us to run towards the sense objects. In childhood it runs after toys, in youth it is mad after indulgence and in manhood it is busy making money. And in old age it broods over the past. Always, it is after objects or thoughts pertaining to senses and individuals.
The elephant is drawn towards the banana grove to eat the fruits. It has to be prevented and forcibly withdrawn from the act. This is the first step to guide the mind well. Children are to be withdrawn from the T.V.'s if we want them to study with concentration.
The bird, hatching the eggs, sits quiet unaffected by the things around. A concentrated study is to be so. And then the concentration becomes so intense that the mind is unmindful of the happenings around. The angler is so engrossed in fishing that he does not hear the enquiring questions of a passer by. And that is intense meditation on God, on an ideal, on studies, on projects etc.
Like a driver, the mind in meditation goes deeper and deeper in search of the pearls of wisdom available at the bottom of the sea. And lo and behold, the pearls are precious, for they are divine and eternal, offering peace and God realisation.
"Do not spend your energy in talking but meditate in silence; and do not let the rush of the outside world disturb you. When your mind is in the highest state, you are unconscious of it. Accumulate power in silence and become a dynamo of spirituality."--- Swami Vivekananda
