Residential Youth Camp 2008, a Report

Swami Jnanadanandaji's Inaugural Address

Ramakrishna Math, Hyderabad conducts Residential Youth Camp every year.  The 3-Day Camp for this year was started on 20th with 108 youth (65 boys and 43 girls) joining the Camp.  The programme consisted of speeches and Presentations by eminent speakers; Prayer, Meditation, Yogasanas, Interaction with Swamijis, Group Discussions etc.
 
The Inaugural Session of the Camp was held at 10-0 a.m., on 20th June. The theme of the session was “Education for Enlightenment.” Swami Srikantanandaji gave the Welcome Address.  Swami Jnanadanandaji, President of the Math, advised the students to realize their  inner spiritual potential and awaken it through sadhana for total personality development. Swami Atmavidanandaji, President of the Kadapa Ramakrishna Math,  also addressed the youth.  Swami Anupamanandaji, Director, Vivekananda Institute of Languages,  Dr. K. Subrahmanyam,   retired Principal of Vivekananda College, Madurai, Dr.Vishnupriya, Educationist, also addressed the youth.   The theme of the afternoon session was “Training of the Mind”.  It was addressed by Swami Atmasraddhanandaji, Editor, Vedanta Kesari Monthly, Chennai, Sri Gopala Krishna, Dr. Sumita Roy.

On the 2nd Day theme for the morning session was “Personality Development”.  Swami Atmashraddhanandaji spoke on the need for and ways and means of rebuilding the character. It was  followed by a talk by Dr. Sasikumar on “Role of Science and Religion for Total Development.”  The session ended with the talk of Sri Y. Mohan Rao on “Satya Sodhana and Sakti Sadhana” .  In the afternoon Dr. Kamala Jaya Rao spoke on “Vivekananda’s Contribution to World Culture. This was followed by a Group Discussion on 3 subjects, viz., Vedanta in daily Life, Vivekananda’s Contribution to World Religion and Vivekananda’s Plan of Rebuilding India. There was interaction, wherein the doubts of the participants on several topics of life, culture and spiritual values were clarified by the Swamijis and Guests speakers.
 
The theme of the morning session on 22nd  was, “Human Excellence.” Dr. Sumita Roy spoke on Ramakrishna Movement. Sri Nrupender Rao of Pennar Group spoke on “Six Steps for Personality Development” and Sri I. V. Chalapati Rao spoke on “The Art of Living”.   The after noon session was addressed by Sri V. Venkata Raman on “Managing Oneself” and Swami Srikantananda on “The Power of Positive Thinking”. 

All the Swamijis participated in the Concluding Session wherein the participants expressed their immense happiness at the benefit they derived from the 3-Day Residential Youth Camp.  They also expressed their ardent desire to form into a “Vivekananda Study Circle” so that they can meet on the second Sunday of every month and develop the spirit of self development and social service.
