Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life - think of it, dream of it, live on idea. Let the brain, muscles, nerves, every part of your body, be full of that idea, and just leave every other idea alone. This is the way to success.
- Swami Vivekananda
Sarada Vidya Dana Kendram

Feeding the hungry is a great thing. But the one fed feels hunger again and again later. It is not a permanent solution. But if you teach a man how to feed himself for the rest of his life, that would be greater service indeed, for he now knows what to do so as not to be a burden on anyone. He then stands on his own feet. Therefore, educating those in need is a better service.

Ramakrishna Math, Hyderabad, does this through a program called Sarada Vidya Dana Kendram. Children who are in need up to standard X are given free tuitions here every day. Apart from regular education the children are taught good samskaras (habits and attitudes) for their general personal development. We aim at making them ideal and enlightened citizens. As every other Service in the Math, this also is a form of spiritual practice--to try to see God in various forms and serve Him through them. This leads to one's own spiritual progress and also to the betterment of the material condition of the served.

These children come from poor families living near the Ashrama. They spend about two hours in the Math everyday and improve their performance in studies, arts etc. They are taught Handicrafts, drawing, computers, moral stories, values and ordinary studies like mathematics, science etc. They are given books and stationery whenever required. The children are also given evening snacks like bread and jam, biscuits and also nourishing drinks like Bournvita, Boost etc. They also have cultural programmes and competitions for their annual day in which their extra-curricular talents find expression. The classroom environment is kept as lively and colourful as possible with many charts both scientific and general, great leaders of nation and history. The children are shown various educational programmes and other general knowledge enhancing videos on wide television sets. These are taught by some teachers who offer their services voluntarily with a service motive. A Swami who is in charge of this programme supervises everything daily and guides the children in right lines.

Those who wish to serve as teachers here are most  welcome and should contact the office according to the details given at the bottom of every page in this website.
