Chinese

The Institute started the Chinese language course in July 2004 and the response has been very encouraging; especially from students going to study MBBS in Chinese Universities.

China is a fast developing nation. Its vast potential and high growth rate in recent years is attracting the attention of the whole world. China ranks among the top ten industrial nations in a world. It is forecasted to be India’s largest trading partner in the near future. The opportunities for business and educational trips to China have increased rapidly.  While the Chinese are making rapid progress in learning the English language, other nations are lagging behind in learning the Chinese language. As a result we are struggling to forge healthy trading ties with China. The Chinese course has been started at this Institute to cater to this urgent need.

“Chinese” is the language of the Han Nationality, which makes up for over 90% of china’s population. Among the modern languages, Chinese alone integrates both meaning and pronunciation information in its characters. Chinese is a tonal language. The tone of a Chinese word is just as important as its pronunciation. The tone stays the same whether the sentence is a question, exclamation or a simple statement. To use a wrong tone would change its meaning completely.

The Chinese language does not have alphabets as in English and other languages. The Chinese phonetic alphabet is called “pinyin”. They use Chinese characters, which are known as “hanzi”. Chinese characters are often thought of as overly complex. In fact they are all derived from a couple of hundred simple pictographs and ideographs in ways that are usually quite logical and easy to remember. Learning a language involves four major skills: Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. Our course gives equal importance to all the skills.
