- Courses and Syllabuses This is the age of globalisation. Faster communication, extensive travel, greater interaction, increasing exchange of ideas, information, outsourcing of jobs, internet etc. have reduced the world into a global village. Nations, societies and individuals can no longer afford to remain isolated from others but must follow the universal law - "Expansion is life, contraction is death" as proclaimed by Swami Vivekananda. Languages play a very important role in this process of expansion and greater interaction between cultures, traditions, and nations. Languages unite people; languages enlighten people; languages bridge social, cultural and national barriers; languages open the gates of opportunities and languages help one understand one’s traditions, culture and history. Languages give us a sense of identity. Vivekananda Institute of Languages, a department of Ramakrishna Math, Hyderabad was started in 1981. The Math regards teaching of languages as an integral part of its work for national and international integration. It considers the study and promotion of languages as one of the ways of entering the thoughts and culture of various societies and nations and for preparing our people for greater interaction with other nations in the fields of trade and commerce, education, religion etc. Every candidate who enters Vivekananda Institute of Languages and learns to view his or her life and work from this standpoint will be in a position to make a real and practical contribution to the nation and humanity. Besides these each student is exposed to the great cultural heritage of India as reflected in the teachings of Swami Vivekananda and other scriptures. At present the Institute offers courses in the following eight languages:- Spoken English, German, French, Japanese, Spanish, Chinese, Hindi and Sanskrit. The Institute has a capacity of about 7,000 seats per session. Thus, about 21,000 students take admission each year. However, the demand for the Spoken English course in each session has increased so much that we have to disappoint hundreds of candidates seeking admission. Therefore, those students who are fortunate get admission must keep this in mind and must make sincere attempts to complete the course within the given duration. The Institute has team of about 65 highly qualified, experienced, and dedicated and dynamic teachers for whom teaching is more of a “passion and a mission” than merely a commercial profession. With about 25 years of experience and service, the Institute has established itself as a premier institution in the field of teaching languages. Given below is a summary of the admissions to the various languages of the last few years:
