French Course & Syllabuses
SYLLABUS FOR FRENCH COURSE
The Institute teaches the French Language at six levels – First Junior, Second Junior, First Senior, Second Senior, Diploma I and Diploma II. The duration of each level is three months. For details regarding admissions, please go to Admissions.
The participation of French industries in the Indian market is growing. Students are also interested to pursue studies in France. The French course at the Institute will be helpful to those who wish to make a career in multinational ventures which need French knowing personnel or to meet the demands in the academic field.
The course in French is designed to take a beginner to a level where he/she will be able to express himself freely and read a book without consulting the dictionary. It is said that for any language about 1000 words are needed for a basic knowledge, about 2600 words for reading a newspaper, and around 4500 words for reading a novel. The main targets of the course are gradually building up the necessary vocabulary, inculcating grammatical knowledge and usage, and giving conversational skills in French language. By the time the students reach the Diploma level of the course, they are able to read and speak in French as well as do basic translation work.
SYLLABUS FOR FIRST JUNIOR
-At this level, the student can read, write, listen and speak French with little difficulty.
-One can make simple conversations pertaining to real-life situations with using present tense.
-One can enrich lot of vocabulary and explore many things related to French culture.
-The student can also aim for DELF-A1.
- The alphabets/vowels/consonants/sounds etc.,
- The numbers-ordinal and cardinal.
- The days of the week and the months of the year.
- Regular verbs-( 3 groups-approximately 60 to 70)
- Irregular verbs-( approximately 25 verbs)
- Pronominal verbs (reflexive).
- The different types of adjectives :qualifying/interrogative/possessive.
- The prepositions.
- The modal verbs like can, should, must, have to, ought to, may, might, be able to etc.,,,
- How to make negative sentences and how to make questions in 3 different ways.
- The various types of pronouns-Subject/Direct object and Disjunctive.
- The different types of articles-Indefinite/definite/contracted/partitive with nouns.
- The gender of nouns-Masculin/Feminin.
- The singular and plural of nouns.

SYLLABUS FOR SECOND JUNIOR
-At this level, the student has a good taste of French.
-The student can start communicating in present, past and future.
-One can confidently appear for DELF-A1 and can look forward to writing DELF-A2.
- The pronouns-Direct object(COD)and Indirect object(COI).
- The adjectives-Possessive/Demonstrative.
- Comparatives and Superlatives.
- The tenses:Present/Past/Future like Futur Proche/Futur Simple/Passé Récent/Passé composé/Imparfait/Présent Continu(Progressif)/Présent.
- The adjective-Tout
- The various expressions for cause or reason/purpose/hypothesis/condition.
- The placement of adjectives and adverbs/question words/impersonal forms/present conditional and other topics like la forme restrictive<<ne…que>>.
- How to make negative sentences with different words like never, nothing, nobody etc.,, :(ne…pas/plus/jamais/rien/personne).
- The imparfait versus the Passé Composé.

SYLLABUS FOR FIRST SENIOR
-At this level, one can have a good command over present, past and future.
-He or she can express French more comfortably.
-one can have the introduction over the expressions which beautify language.
-This level can boost enough skills to appear for DELF-A2 easily.
- The interrogation.
- The imperative and it’s applications.
- The imparfait versus the Passé Composé
- The relative pronouns.
- The possessive adjectives and pronouns.
- The demonstrative adjectives and pronouns.
- The interrogative adjectives and pronouns.
- The various types of object pronouns :COD/COI/EN/Y.
- Les doubles pronoms.=How to apply more than one pronoun in a sentence.
- .The Past perfect(le plus-que parfait)
- .The agreement of past participle with <>/ the verb<>usages/ opposition/the placement of the adjectives/the indefinite pronouns and the other topics like-les partitifs/la comparaison/le conditionnel/l’expression de la quantité/faire et laisser+infinitif/quelques constructions verbales/les phrases longue/La Mise en Relief etc.,

-One can start reading French news paper, various books and one can understand and express any French text little comfortably.
-One can also obtain abundant skills to aim for DELF-B1.

- Direct speech versus indirect sppech.
- The various object pronouns like <<COD/COI/EN/Y>>.
- The gerund.
- The present subjunctive.
- The present conditional and the past conditional.
- Formation of the passive voice.
- The order pf object pronouns.
